There are parts of me I didn’t lose.
I left them behind.
Not because I wanted to, but because they didn’t feel safe to carry anymore.
I learned how to adapt.
How to read rooms.
How to soften my truth so it wouldn’t upset anyone else.

I abandoned my needs before anyone else could.
I silenced my hurt so I wouldn’t be seen as difficult.
I convinced myself that asking for less was strength.
But those parts didn’t disappear.
They waited.
They waited in the tightness in my chest.
In the resentment I couldn’t explain.
In the exhaustion that never went away.
Returning to myself meant facing the grief of realizing how often I chose peace over honesty.
How often I chose silence over safety.
I’m learning now that reclaiming myself doesn’t make me selfish.
It makes me whole.
Those abandoned parts aren’t angry with me.
They’re relieved I finally came back.
